How to get a Live Agent at Experian
It may take you less time to fly around the world and back than to get through to someone at Experian. If you have tried before, then you know what we mean. Fortunately, we have taken a few flights, and have figured out the magic formula to get through to a live representative. There is a specific process if you need to get in contact with Experian regarding any issue on your credit file. Note that there is a separate number for businesses and one for individuals.
For individuals, the best number to call is 1800-493-1058. They will ask you to enter or say your social security number. The system is very sensitive, so its advisable to mute the phone and use the keypad only. Once you have entered your social, they will ask you to describe in a few words why you’re calling. Wait for the system to ask if you want to “hear your choices” by pressing “9”. Press 9 to hear your choices. Wait for the system to start numbering your choices. Press “2” to add or remove fraud alert. Next, choose 3 to “start a dispute.” The system will then try to “narrow down” what you’re disputing. The objective is to choose the least serious, but still serious enough to warrant a live agent. Press “1” to report that something is incorrect on your credit information. Press “3” to indicate that there is something wrong with your information. After that, the last choice-that it is something else-is indicated by pressing “4”. That’s it. Like magic, you will be transferred to a live agent. Because its so hard for everyone to get through, you should be able to talk to an agent in less than five minutes. You’re welcome.
I think they are saying to mute the phone so that the automated system doesn’t pick up background noise and route you elsewhere
Why mute the phone? Scam usually do so because they don’t want people to hear.
