Apple’s Newest Yesterdays

The day was September 9th. The year was 2015. It was a joyful moment. Apple had done it again. They had revealed another innovative feature on the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. “Live Photos” and a “new” “3D Feature.” There were “oohs” and “ahs” from iPhone fans around the globe. Such intellect. Such brilliant engineering. How does Apple do it? We happen to know how. It wasn’t that hard to figure out either. In fact, The answer is simpler than you think. They do it-simply because it has already been done. They do it, because they have seen it been done a thousand times. So have you-on Android phones.

But that’s not all. Once they do it, they sue everyone for doing it as well. But all of that is beside the point. We know Apple sues. Just see Apple will sue your grandmother. What is startling is that they introduce these seemingly amazing features that continues to wow the walking dead, but are features released on Android years before. The new 3D touch released September 2015 allows the user to peek at content, or get a second set of options. So you may preview an email for example, by 3D Touching without really opening that email. That’s it. That’s 3D for Apple. Hurray for iPhone users. Two years before Apple’s newest break through though, Samsung introduced the air view concept on the S4. Samsung’s air view gave you a set of options by hovering your finger over the screen. We all know that hovering is way cooler than holding down a screen. But we didn’t really see a “wow” reaction when Samsung came out with that years before. Now, here is apple, years later, saving the day with the same concept, but even less remarkable. Yet, it seems to be the biggest thing since the wheel.

There is also some commotion about the moving pictures in the new iPhone 6, but once more HTC was doing this with Zoe for some time. Instead of still images HTC allowed quick two second video that made your gallery come to life. You could remove objects from the background, change expressions, and so on because they were many images captured in that two seconds. The HTC M7 was probably the first HTC device to release the Zoe feature in 2013. It has been a part of the HTC One family ever since. But hail Apple for creativity on this one. Apple pulls it off because they have an ardent following. They have created a brand. And in the minds of the people, you are someone if you are a part of that following.

And so once more apple has managed to captivate the masses with a follow up behind Android. They have an impressive platform-but with iPhone fans- and people in general-they have outdone themselves. Never mind that all videos showed here are almost three years old at the time of this post.

We do hope to see Apple go back to being Apple. To do so, they must get rid of the idea that they still own devices after selling them. They must become more open. They must become more Google-like. Otherwise they will find themselves forever copying that which has been done.

You see, Apple doesn’t just say that they are good. They actually claim greatness. Good artists copy, but great artists steal. We have always been shameless about stealing other people’s ideas. Well done Apple.
